Miracle House, Inc., began as an inspired
vision experienced by its founder Mary Beth Martin on January 27, 1985.
The First facility was leased at 2154 Brigham Street, Oxnard, Ca on
January 15, 1986 and non-profit status was received on December 11,
1986. The First Ventura County funding as well as a State License was
awarded to Miracle House by the end of 1987. The First staff
member was hired in early 1988 and Miracle House received its State
Certification.
Program Expansion
In July 1988, County drug and alcohol
funding enabled Miracle House to implement a highly structured treatment
program ("A House") and to hire an additional employee, as
well. By early 1989, Miracle House obtained a Community Care
License for drug rehabilitation and received additional County drug
funding. In order to qualify for federal audit standards, Miracle
House updated its accounting procedures and Miracle House received
federal grant funding and county alcohol funding for the establishment
of a residential treatment program in Ventura in November 1989. A
facility located at 152 N. Dos Caminos, Ventura, Ca was leased in
January and was licensed and certified by March 1990. This facility
implemented a "managed care" program and was awarded
additional county alcohol funding for the implementation of a "Grad
House", which was leased at 94 S. Anacapa Street, Ventura on June
1, 1990. both of the Oxnard and Ventura facilities received county drug and
alcohol funding for fiscal year 1990 - 1991. In July 1990, Dr. Robert
Lewis was appointed Medical Director of Miracle House and Dr. Marilyn
Evenson was appointed Clinical Staffing Supervisor.
Consolidation and Fiscal Concern
In an effort to consolidate and become
fiscally sound, the Oxnard facility was closed permanently in April,
1992 and moved to 94 S. Anacapa and the Grad House was moved to92 S.
Anacapa. Founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Martin resigned
her position n August 1992. Assistant Program Director and Miracle
House graduate Brenda Davison was given the position. At this time, the
Grad House was closed, the "A House" at 152 N. Dos Caminos was
moved to 94 S. Anacapa, and the Administrative office was moved to 92 s.
Anacapa. Bet capacity was reduced from 12 to 10 treatment and
recovery beds and the budgetary problems were resolved. The
Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs again funded the same contract
amount of $146,500 for fiscal year 1992 -1993 and Miracle House remained
full with a significant waiting list.
The Program Needs to Grow
By early 1994, it became necessary to add
part-time staff to relieve the stress felt by the full-time
counselors and a Relapse Prevention group was added. Additionally,
Dr. Robert Jordan joined the Miracle House staff as the house Physician,
volunteering his services to sign disability forms and provide physicals
for the women.
In 1995, Miracle House, Inc., purchased the facilities
at 92 and 94 S. Anacapa Street. By 1996 the facility next door at
104 S. Anacapa was leased and Miracle House opened a drug court house.
With the closing of Primary Purpose, another residential treatment
facility in Oxnard, Miracle House assumed the Stages Program at the Work
Furlough site in Camarillo in 1997.
A four-track day treatment program, called Miracles
for Moms, was established at three sites in 1998, in partnership with
the Ventura County Cal-Works program. The in 1999, a juvenile
program, known as W.E.R.C (currently called, Commitment Services) was
established at the Work Furlough site. W.E.R.C stood for
"Work, Education, Restitution, and Correction".
By July 2001, the Administration office was moved to
1997 E. Main Street, Ventura. Additionally, a therapeutic component was
added to the Miracles for Moms program. I 2002, a contract with Ventura
County Probation allowed for the addition of a Juvenile day treatment
program.
In 2007, Miracle House said good bye to Brenda Davison
who has served Miracle House with distinction for all these years.
